Baby Changing Station Laws FAQ
Does the ADA require baby changing stations in Illinois?
No, the ADA doesn’t require baby changing stations in any buildings in Illinois. The ADA does, however, have a diaper changing station law that provides baby changing stations requirements by code. A different piece of legislation called the BABIES Act requires that baby changing stations be available to women and men in all federal government buildings in Illinois, and every other state.
Are baby changing stations required in Illinois restaurants?
Yes, baby changing stations are required by state law in all Illinois restaurants. Baby changing stations need to be accessible to both women and men. The law doesn’t require the baby changing stations to be in the bathroom, and also only requires there to be one station available to both men and women on every floor.
Are baby changing stations required in Illinois men's rooms?
Yes, baby changing stations are required by state law in Illinois men’s restrooms. However, the law does not state that the diaper changing station law be applied to every men’s restroom in Illinois, as it only requires that there be at least one baby changing station available to men on every floor of a building.
